Warning comes after PE couple held hostage during daring robbery

AUTHORITIES are warning residents to expect a spike in house robberies as the festive season approaches.

The warning comes just hours after a Port Elizabeth couple were held hostage in their Pari Park home when four men armed with pangas smashed a glass door and entered the home during an early morning robbery.

The daring robbery, which has left the homeowners in shock, took place shortly after 3am.

Atlas Security operations manager Monty Montgomery called the attack brazen and warned residents to expect a spike in both robberies and burglaries as the festive season approached. “In this case, the alarm was sounded after the attackers fled,” he said.

“The robbers forced the couple into a bedroom while they ransacked the house. Before fleeing, they tied the couple’s hands together.

“The robbers were armed with pangas and threatened the couple into not resisting or sounding the alarm. The robbers stole televisions, jewellery and other items.”
