‘Star Wars’ fever grips Bay as fans flock to first showings
NELSON Mandela Bay has been hit by Star Wars fever, with fans flocking to cinemas yesterday to watch Star Wars: The Force Awakens, the seventh movie in the franchise.
And before the first weekend following the film’s opening in South Africa, Ster-Kinekor has announced that advance bookings to watch Star Wars in its Imax theatres has reached record levels, with a total of 34 500 tickets already bought.
Ster-Kinekor Theatres general manager of marketing Bradley Knowles said that of these pre-sales, more than half the tickets – 18 300 – had been secured to watch the film in Imax 3D.
Meanwhile, Nu Metro Cinemas has confirmed that the highly anticipated seventh instalment would be the opening title for the first 4DX cinema in Africa, at the V&A Waterfront in Cape Town.
Fan Cole Cameron, 50, said he had booked his ticket for the movie six weeks ago.
“I have been looking forward to this for more than a year. I think the first movie was released when I was 13, so I have been a fan all my life,” he said.
