Activists continue protest against circus

FOR the fourth time this festive season and for the third consecutive year, a small but determined group of activists yesterday stood their ground in an ongoing bid to remove the “roar of fun” from the visiting McLaren’s Circus in Port Elizabeth.

Group members are opposed to animals in circuses, animal confinement, any animal abuse and any animal training methods which constitute abuse.

The placard-bearing protesters included Colleen Gibson, a former Bayworld employee and animal trainer, and her nine-year-old daughter, Jozlin, who last year made headlines when she was controversially spotted in a cage as part of a protest. “I worked for the oceanarium for 12 years,” Gibson said. “But I have been converted.
