PERLEMOEN worth R1 million confiscated by Cape Town Airport and 4 200 heroin capsules confiscated by customs official in Beit Bridge in Limpopo
PERLEMOEN worth about R1-million was confiscated by Cape Town International Airport customs officials on Tuesday.
South African Revenue Service spokesman Sandile Memela said the dried perlemoen had been packed in boxes and marked as car parts.
“Retrieved documents indicated that the abalone had been declared as car parts, specifically sidemirror casings, destined for export to Hong Kong.”
Memela said the only documents retrieved had been the clearing instruction and invoices stating Hong Kong as the destination.
In another bust, customs officials at Beit Bridge in Limpopo confiscated 4 200 heroin capsules worth about R314 000.
