SUSPECTED gang violence in Port Elizabeth’s northern areas claimed another life in brutal fashion late on Friday, with two more attempted murder cases also under investigation.
Clinton “Vlam” Brand, 27, was badly assaulted before he was murdered in Lawler Street, Schauderville, shortly after 11pm on Friday .
Police spokesman Warrant Officer Alwin Labans said the injuries to Brand’s body suggested he was assaulted by a group of people, before he was shot in the upper body several times. He died on the scene.
“It would appear that the victim was punched, kicked and trampled before he was shot. He was severely bruised and had multiple gunshot wounds,” Labans said.
“We are treating the investigation as a gang-related incident.”
Earlier on Friday night, a 34-year-old was lucky to escape with his life when he was targeted by a gunman in Burness Street, Malabar, shortly after 9pm.
The man was sitting outside his yard when a group of three men approached. One man pulled out a pistol and fired several shots.
He was wounded in the left arm and taken to hospital for treatment.
In Malabar, on Saturday night, a lone gunman opened fire on a woman in Jupiter Street at about 9.40pm.
Labans said the 23-year-old woman was outside her house when a man known to her approached her, pulled a beanie over his face, took out a firearm and shot at her several times before fleeing. .
The woman managed to run into her house unscathed.
Labans said an arrest was expected soon.
He asked for the public’s assistance with information connected to the other incidents, and said they should report it to their nearest police station as soon as possible.
The three shootings follow five more incidents reported on Thursday and Friday, bringing the tally to eight reported shootings in the northern areas in three days.
