The most probable cause of a shack fire that claimed the lives of seven people in Wells Estate, Port Elizabeth, this morning, was a paraffin stove that fell over.
According to police rain severely hampered the process of establishing the cause of the fire but members of the fire department who attended to the fire made a best estimate that the most probable cause was a paraffin stove that fell over.
A grandmother, her daughter and five children, aged between 19-years and 10-months, were killed in a shack fire in Tshazimeunzi Street, Wells Estate at about 3:30am this morning.
They have been identified by friends and family members as Nofomele Jamane, 62, Siphokazi Jamane, 25, Sive Jamane, 19, Sanele Jamane, 7, Abongile Jamane, 6, Kwakhanya Jamane, 3, and 10-month-old Endinako Jamane.
An inquest docket has been opened by Swartkops police station.
