A man believed to have been planning an armed robbery in Kenton-On-Sea last week is thought to be hiding in Port Elizabeth.

According to police Vuyani Msezeni‚ 35‚ and Bongani Mdingano‚ 27‚ were arrested after a brief car chase through Kenton-on-Sea last week Tuesday.

Police spokesman Lieutenant Luvuyo Mjekula said the alleged would-be robbers were arrested after police received a tip-off from Hi-Tech Security about a suspicious vehicle at about midday.

“The detectives spotted the car at a supermarket and arrested one suspect (Msezeni) after they found and seized two 9mm firearms‚” he said. “The other two (men) sped away and police gave chase‚ stopping the car and apprehending the driver (Mdingano)‚ but the third suspect fled.”

Msezeni and Mdingano appeared briefly in the Kenton-On-Sea Magistrate’s Court last week on charges of unlawful possession of firearms and ammunition.

Mjekula said that detectives have already ascertained that the three had allegedly been involved in a robbery at an auto spares shop in the same area about two weeks back.

The two will appear in the same court again on Thursday.
