POSITION: JUNIOR MULTIMEDIA REPORTER
REPORTING TO: DIGITAL EDITOR
DEPARTMENT: EDITORIAL
LOCATION: PORT ELIZABETH
The Herald is looking to hire a multimedia reporter to join our digital first team to produce great multimedia content that is highly shareable and cutting edge for online and mobile consumption. If you are a recent Journalism Graduate, with one to three years experience in digital reporting, are passionate about visual digital story telling in a South African context, and a strong commitment with excellent work ethic; we encourage you to apply for this exciting position.
MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES
Produce video and multimedia rich news stories that are in line with our editorial policy and strategy.
Film and edit original stories into compelling visual packages – whether it’s hard news, entertainment, sport or business.
An eye to take great pictures to not only accompany your video stories but also if the chosen story requires it being told better.
Create and re-edit video content for social media distribution.
Upload your stories into our content management system and formulate strong creative headlines and blurbs for its optimization.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS
Must have a Bachelor’s Degree in Journalism or Communications, or equivalent qualification and experience.
Worked in a professional news environment for at least 1 to 3 years.
Sound editorial judgment
A solid understanding of online video consumption and audience, as well as an understanding of local and international web video trends and best practices.
Strong video editing and shooting abilities.
Proven experience in video production and online journalism.
Demonstrate an understanding of online news and media landscape with an excellent understanding of South Africa’s political and socio-economic landscape.
Strong verbal and written communication.
Ability to work under extreme pressure, and deliver on deadline.
Valid driver’s licence.
