Several chocolate products including SNICKERS®, MARS®, MILKY WAY® and CELEBRATIONS® produced by Dutch confectioner Mars Brands have been recalled after a small piece of red plastic was found in one SNICKERS® bar purchased in Germany.

Mars Africa corporate affairs director for South Africa and Sub-Saharan Africa Tumi Masekela said a precautionary decision was made to voluntarily recall the selected chocolate bars produced at the company’s Netherlands factory.

“We believe this is an isolated incident,” she said.

Masekela confirmed that products imported by Mars South Africa with the identified product codes had been successfully isolated and are currently on “hold” in their distributor warehouses.

“The products on our shelves are safe for consumers to enjoy,” she confirmed.

According to Masekela the recall concerns only specific products that were manufactured at the Netherlands facility during a limited production period of December 5, 2015 to January 18, 2016.

“As a precaution, the product recall is being implemented in all markets served by our Netherlands facility.

If consumers have any questions about the recall, please contact Mars Africa Consumer Care line on 0860 00 2740 or contact choc-za@mars.com,” she added.
