THE Northern Areas Education Forum (NAEF) will hold a meeting tonight to discuss and finalise action plans for tomorrow’s planned mass march to highlight the plight of schools in the northern areas.

Tonight’s meeting will take place at Sanctor High School at 6pm and the NAEF urged the community to attend.

“Your presence is of the utmost importance to support a better educational future for our children,” it said.

A nearly month-long school stay-away by thousands of northern areas pupils last month ended after the NAEF resolved to give the Department of Education until the end of the first term on March 18 to meet their four primary demands.

The NAEF’s primary demands are for the Department to urgently address crippling teacher shortages, resources for special needs pupils, reclassification of some schools and back pay for years of outstanding funding owed by the department.

Tomorrow’s march is expected to start from two different centres, namely the Cleary Park Shopping Centre and the Stanford Square Centre at 7.30am, and will both end at the Gelvandale Stadium.

Parents with children at affected schools are encouraged to attend.
