Six suspected perlemoen poachers were arrested on Wednesday after they were allegedly caught red-handed operating an illegal factory in Cape Town.
Major Robert Netshiunda said that the six suspects, aged between 19 and 43 years, were appearing in the Atlantis Magistrate’s Court today.
Netshiunda said that the men were caught in possession of R2 million worth of perlemoen.
“The Hawks had executed a search warrant at an illegal abalone factory along the Klein Dassenberg Road in Cape Town when their suspicions were proven right,” he said.
The six suspects have been charged with contravening the Marine Living Resources Act.
