It took authorities 10 days to realise an awaiting-trial prisoner at St Albans prison had escaped after he was booked out of the facility by a detective, who failed to report that the man was on the run.
The escape has triggered a probe into a Port Elizabeth vehicle theft specialist detective who allegedly allowed the prisoner to escape and then failed to report it for almost two weeks.
