A UITENHAGE teacher died in a Western Cape hospital on Tuesday afternoon after being struck by a taxi between Ashton and Robertson.
Daniel Pienaar Technical High School Afrikaans teacher Roux Brand, 61, was removing an object from the road when he was hit.
Brand was returning to Uitenhage from a rugby tournament at Drostdy Technical High School in Worcester.
Daniel Pienaar Technical High School principal Nico Claassen said he had heard from Brand’s wife, Annette, that he had been worried the object could cause an accident.
“He was driving in his private car with his wife, and was a couple of minutes ahead of the school buses,” Claassen said.
“He got out of the car to remove a foreign object from the road. It was then that he was hit by a minibus which was transporting people who had attended a church service in Mossel Bay.”
Brand leaves his wife and two children.
A memorial service will be held at the De Mist Dutch Reformed Church in Uitenhage at 2pm on Tuesday.
