Party claims 300 people crossed over, however opposition leaders dismiss ‘rent-a-crowd’

THE ANC in Nelson Mandela Bay yesterday welcomed what it said were 300 new members from the DA, UDM and COPE. Former DA MPL Nokonwaba Matikinca, who resigned from the DA in July last year accusing it of racism, is on a mission to recruit DA activists across the province to get them to join the ANC.

Yesterday, at the Nangoza Jebe Hall in New Brighton, she said 60 Bay DA activists had moved to the ANC. The rest were reportedly members from COPE and the UDM as well as ordinary residents joining the ANC.

One of the activists who joined the ANC yesterday was Sindiswa Ngqondela, wife of expelled DA councillor Bahle Ngqondela.

Matikinca said she planned to recruit Bay DA councillors whose names would be announced at the ANC’s manifesto launch at the Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium on April 16.

“When I resigned from the DA, I said I will make sure I collect everybody and bring them to the ANC,” Matikinca said. “They thought I was joking.

“I have done this in Queenstown, in Buffalo City and now in Nelson Mandela Bay.

“I’m working provincially to bring back old members of the ANC who went to the DA, to bring them back home.

“We must go back to the ANC and fight for what’s right,” Matikinca said.
