About 200 people, including parents, teachers, principals and pupils took part in a march to raise awareness to the ongoing education crisis in Nelson Mandela Bay’s northern areas today.
The march was organised by the Northern Areas Education Forum (NAEF), which represents the interests of over 40 schools from Schauderville to Booysen Park.
The group marched from Cleary Park Shopping Centre to the Gelvandale Stadium where a few speakers, including pupils, principals and NAEF leadership addressed the crowd.
The group said it remains committed to the fight for quality education and a provision of a teacher for every classroom of 30 pupils.
Earlier this year shortages many schools in the area locked their gates in an almost month long stay-away by pupils .Teacher shorates, overcrowded classrooms and ailing infrastructure were reasons cited.
