Queen Victoria today graced Nelson Mandela Bay with her presence when she docked at Port of Port Elizabeth.

She will be officially welcomed to the port by mayor Danny Jordaan and Transnet National Ports Authority executives, corporate affairs manager Margorie Makama said.

“The Queen Victoria is 294 meters long, weighing 90 000 Gross ton.

“She has a total of 16 decks, 12 of which are dedicated to passengers and she can accommodate 2014 passengers,” Makama said.

The MS Queen Victoria’s visit completes the “three sisters” visit to the Port of Port Elizabeth, with Queen Mary 2 and the Queen Elizabeth having previously called the port.

Her visit to Port Elizabeth is part of a World Cruise with her last port of call being Reunion Island and followed by the Port of Cape Town.

The Port Manager Rajesh Dana said: “Transnet is extremely honoured and privileged to be able to host the Queen Victoria in the Port of Port Elizabeth.

“This visit affords the Port of Port Elizabeth an opportunity of showcasing its efficient, safe and reliable marine services and world class port infrastructure.

“The port has long prided itself as being one of the premier gateways for tourism to our beautiful city.

“These passenger liner calls contribute positively to the local economy and allow the city to share its rich diverse culture and its friendliness with the world.”

“A number of passengers will be disembarking to enjoy various excursions in and around the City before setting sail at 7pm tonight,” Makama said.
