Removing the Springbok emblem from national rugby team jerseys is not African National Congress (ANC) policy.
The ruling party said it “distances itself from the remarks made by Comrade Strike Ralegoma”‚ who told Parliament’s portfolio committee on sport and recreation that he wants it changed.
“His remarks are not derived from a policy position of the ANC‚” said spokesperson Zizi Kodwa.
Ralegoma reportedly asked for the Springbok’s removal – to be replaced by the Protea‚ which other national sports teams play under – saying that for transformation to be a success all teams must play under a single emblem.
