DRUGS worth R2.6-million were found stashed in the body panels and other hidden compartments of a bakkie that was stopped while travelling through the Karoo at 1am yesterday.
Police spokesman Lieutenant-Colonel Andre Traut said police pulled the bakkie over.
“The vehicle was stopped for a routine inspection, which led to the discovery of 1kg of cocaine hidden in a false compartment in the undercarriage,” he said.
“This prompted the members to intensity their search, which resulted in a further 1kg of cocaine and 5.2kg of tik being found in the bodywork of the vehicle in compartments under the canopy.
“The total street value of the drugs is estimated at R2.6-million.”
Traut said the driver, 39, who lives in Milnerton, Cape Town, was arrested.
It is unclear where the man was travelling to when the car was stopped.
Traut declined to release the street name or area in which the car was stopped. Nor would he say in which court the man would appear.
