Ever had that awkward feeling‚ scratching around for coins to pay for kerbside parking?
Parking marshals in Cape Town’s CBD have now been equipped with handheld point-of-sale machines‚ enabling motorists to pay for a empty spots with bank cards.
In addition to card machines‚ drivers can also pay for parking with their cellphone using Snapscan technology.
The card machines “make it easier and more convenient to pay for parking as motorists do not always have cash on hand and then have to search for an ATM to withdraw money”‚ said the city’s Mayoral Committee Member for Transport‚ Councillor Brett Herron.
“I want to assure motorists that the parking marshals are still obliged to accept cash as payment for parking‚ despite the additional payment methods that are now available‚” he said.
