Legal firm tasked with overseeing board’s workings resigns

THE Mandela Bay Development Agency’s (MBDA) new board will soon be on the hunt for a new company secretary after the legal firm overseeing the board’s workings resigned from the troubled municipal entity this week.

In the latest in the MBDA saga, BNI Attorneys – which served as the MBDA board’s secretary and legal adviser – called it quits on Monday.

The MBDA said yesterday the firm had resigned because of its own operational, capacity and restructuring requirements, but it is understood to be due to mounting frustration at being caught in the middle of the ongoing war between the municipal entity and City Hall.

It is understood it also felt its credibility as a legal firm was compromised and it had been used to help get rid of board members out of favour with the municipality.

BNI head Sivuyile Ntlabezo, however, said they were not in a position to reveal their reasons.

BNI will still serve on the MBDA’s panel of legal service providers.

MBDA spokesman Luvuyo Bangazi said: “We will again be guided by the board in terms of the way forward as this service is primarily for board purposes.”
