A joint rescue operation is currently underway on a farm outside Uitenhage.
Police K9 Search and Rescue, ambulances and coastal water rescue swimmers are on the scene where, according to officials, two people were swept away in strong river currents while trying to cross a river.
One person was rescued shortly before 8pm. The 36-year-old man is being treated for hypothermia.
The second person remains missing and search-and-rescue operations are still underway.
