The public will finally have a chance to step inside the world’s largest floating bookshop, the Logos Hope, from this afternoon.

The Christian ministry vessel has been docked in Port Elizabeth since earlier this week.

Stocked with more than 5 000 books, the Logos Hope will be open to the public until July 19.

“Visitors can expect books on science, sport, cookery, arts, medicine, languages, philosophy and children’s books,” spokesman David Oettl said.

“From the welcome area, which introduces the vessel through a short movie and interactive displays, to the cafe which has ice cream, drinks and snacks for sale . . . there is something for everyone.”

The entrance fee is R5 and children under the age of 12 can board at no cost.

When the ship docked in Durban over the Easter weekend it attracted more than 15 000 visitors. After its visit in Port Elizabeth, the ship will sail to Cape Town.
