Grahamstown highway patrol members conducting a vehicle check point on the N2 at Settlers Monument confiscated drugs worth about R8 000.
Police spokeswoman Captain Mali Govender said the officers stopped a white Nissan bakkie with two male occupants travelling from Port Elizabeth towards Grahamstown at about 10pm on Wednesday.
“During a routine search of the vehicle and occupants two packets of mandrax, a few loose tablets and some dagga was found and seized,” she said.
“Only the driver, aged 57 was arrested. The total value of the drugs is approximately R8000. The suspect will appear in the Grahamstown Magistrate’s Court soon on two counts – one of possession of mandrax and one of possession of dagga.”
