Social media users are furious following a Durban motorist’s racist rant going viral.
The woman‚ whose identity has not been revealed‚ is heard saying the k-word repeatedly on cellphone video footage captured after she her car was allegedly targeted by smash-and-grab robbers.
In the video clip‚ two policemen – one black ‚ the other white – are seen coming to her aid before she starts insulting the black police officer‚ refusing to be assisted by him and saying she hates black people and will run them over with her car and shoot them if she had a gun.
Twitter user Alex Visser said the motorist was wrong to stereotype all black people. “She has a right to express her anger I so understand‚ but she was not suppose to use ‘K’ word and generalise all in ones crime‚” he said.
Another user‚ Terry @TerryLsb‚ took her threats seriously and likenened them to the mass shooting which saw the death of about 50 people at a gay club in America recently. “she says ‘if I see black person…I’ll drive over them and if I have I’ll shoot them all’…beware of #OrlandoShootingTendencies‚” he said.
Bongani A. Rantho suggested the motorist could resolve her hate for black people by moving to another continent. “She probably has a black maid and was raised by a black maid. She must migrate to not see any more blacks. This is Africa.” he said.
Other users referred to past reports of racism involving individuals who were exposed on social media.
Dona Soprano said: “So apparently ‘blacks in this town vary from blacks in Durban’. We’re ‘arrogant & useless’. 2016 really has been the year of the racist. Sigh.”
Television personality Blessing Cele said: “Another day‚ another racist referring to us as k*****s in our country. Maybe other Africans are right when they call us weak. *shrugs*.”
Last Friday‚ former real estate agent Penny Sparrow was fined R150 000 for her racist Facebook post in January in which was said to have likened black people to monkeys.
