Government is pleased with the progress made in Nelson Mandela Bay’s efforts to tap into the oceans economy, calling on the city’s roleplayers work together to address some of the standing challenges.

Following a monitory visit to the city on Tuesday morning (21/06/16), deputy minister in the presidency Bhuti Manamela urged the city’s key players to speedily work at unblocking things that stand in the way of effectively unlocking Operation Phakisa opportunities.

“We believe there are blockages, but these can be resolved by getting all parties involved in Operation Phakisa – public enterprises, the metro, transport and the presidency – to work together to resolve these,” he said.

The challenges include the removal of the manganese ore plants at the Port of Port Elizabeth to the Port of Ngqurha – a process meant to start next year and completed by 2019.

Manamela was accompanied by mayor Danny Jordaan, who said the municipality had been working very hard to attract investments that would achieve Operation Phakisa objectives.
