Murder accused Christopher Panayiotou is due back in the Port Elizabeth Magistrate’s Court today where Magistrate Abigail Beeton is expected to rule whether or not the defence had managed to present new facts.
If Beeton finds that new facts were in fact placed before her, then a formal bail application will be heard. If not, then Panayiotou will remain behind bars – for now..
Panayiotou is accused of ordering a hit on his school teacher wife, Jayde Panayiotou, who was kidnapped from outside their home in April last year and murdered.
The state claims Panayiotou paid a former employee, Luthando Siyoni, to hire hitmen Sizwezakhe Vumazonke and Sinethemba Nemembe, to kidnap and kill Jayde, 29.
The trial is scheduled to kick off in the Port Elizabeth High Court in October.
