A case of culpable homicide is being investigated following an accident along the R72 near Port Alfred on Friday morning (24/06/16).
Police spokesman Captain Luvuyo Mjekula said police were called to the scene – about 10km out of Port Alfred going towards Kenton-on-Sea – at about 5am.
“On arrival they found the two damaged vehicles, a white Ford Bantam and a Nissan minibus taxi, on the side of the road. The driver of the Ford Bantam was certified dead at the scene and rescuers had to use the Jaws of Life to remove his body from the vehicle. He has been identified as Des Kraft, 67, from Alexandria,” Mjekula said.
“The 40-year-old driver of the minibus taxi sustained various injuries and was admitted to the local hospital. He is from Mthatha.”
Mjekula said it was not yet clear what had caused the accident.
