Two people were killed in gang shootings yesterday, bringing the gang death toll over 24 hours to four.

In the past two weeks, eight people have been killed and 10 wounded in gang-related violence in Port Elizabeth’s northern areas.

Gurshin Samuels, 25, was gunned down at 1pm yesterday in Old Stanford Road in Helenvale.

Police spokeswoman Colonel Priscilla Naidu said Samuels was shot in the chest by two attackers.

“The deceased and a friend were at the corner of Bongo Street and Leith Street. Two gunmen spotted them and gave chase while shooting,” she said.

“The deceased was shot in the chest and died after running into someone’s yard.”

At about 3pm, Renaldo Cairncross, 17, was killed in Calvert Street in Gelvandale by a group of gunmen who opened fire on him and two friends. His friends escaped unharmed. By 4pm, police had arrested four men in Malabar Extension 5 for Cairncross’s murder. The men are due to appear in the Port Elizabeth Magistrate’s Court tomorrow.

This comes after Damien Louw, 29, and Bradlee Vosloo, 24, were killed and another person was wounded while they were sitting in a taxi at the Korsten taxi rank on Tuesday.

Also on Tuesday, a 33-year-old suspected gangster was shot and wounded in Kemdrick Street, Gelvandale.
