THE Richmond Hill Special Rating Area (SRA) company has reported vast improvements in the area, as the extra levies paid by residents have started to show results.

Two patrol vehicles were bought to respond quickly to suspicious criminal activity, and the streets have been cleared of illegal dumping.

An initiative spearheaded by the Mandela Bay Development Agency (MBDA), the SRA was officially established in April to improve services and safety in Richmond Hill.

Residents have been paying an extra R50 to R70 – depending on the value of the properties – in rates since July last year.

The money has been used for two-way radios to communicate during neighbourhood patrols, and staff have also been hired to clean the streets.

Resident Jan de Klerk started a WhatsApp group for residents to report suspicious criminal activity in the area.
