Teacher accused of verbal abuse
A GRADE 12 Port Elizabeth pupil who alleges she was abused emotionally by a teacher at D F Malherbe High School has resorted to obtaining a protection order to bar the teacher from verbally abusing her in class.
The move comes just a week after the 17-year-old schoolgirl and her mother – neither of whom can be named – laid crimen injuria and intimidation complaints against Business Studies teacher Alet Carstens.
The mother, 42, approached The Herald last week claiming that for a year Carstens had made her daughter’s life a “living hell” by shouting and swearing at her.
She said going public and obtaining a protection order from the Port Elizabeth Magistrate’s Court was their last resort.
In court papers, the schoolgirl alleges she has suffered emotional abuse at the hands of the teacher since the beginning of last year.
