The University of Limpopo’s Turfloop Campus Labour Relations Manager was granted R3 000 bail by the Mankweng Magistrate’s Court earlier today following his arrest on fraud related charges.
Lesiba Lazarus Lebelo, 59, was arrested at his home in Penina Park, Polokwane, on Tuesday night following an investigation by the Hawks into alleged fraud.
Hawks spokesman Lieutenant Robert Netshiunda said Lebelo was accused of using a fraudulent matric certificate to acquire employment at the university in 1996.
“Initial investigations revealed that the serial number of the certificate he used belonged to somebody else, meaning that Lebelo earned over R10 million in his 19 years of service fraudulently.”
Lebelo, who was due to retire at the end of the month, will be back in court again on November 26.
