Emergency services are at Hobie Beach near the Pier in Port Elizabeth where a 10-year-old girl’s leg is stuck in a drain.
The head of EMS in Nelson Mandela Bay, Brendhan Metune, says that it has become a “difficult rescue.”
They are using a jackhammer to remove the cement surrounding the drain where her leg is stuck at knee height at a shower facility.
Ambulance and Special Operations Coordination, the fire dept and Surf Lifesaving are all on the scene.
At the same time, rescuers and Surf Lifesaving were called out to a near drowning only 500 metres away from the trapped child.
“The patient was rescued out of the water,” says Metune.
