Recall letter shows divisions in COPE

DEEP rifts within COPE’s Nelson Mandela Bay caucus have been exposed after a structure purporting to be the regional task team attempted to recall three of its councillors from the council.

Councillor Khwezi Ntshanyana, recently elected to the powerful municipal public accounts committee position and also regional chairman of the party, was one of those in the firing line.

A letter from the illegitimate regional task team to the municipality, Ntshanyana, Rano Kayser and Monde Mtanga, has been rubbished by COPE’s deputy president, Willie Madisha.

The letter, written by Busisiwe Matlabane, who claims to be the regional task team acting secretary and addressed to the office of the city manager, states: “[COPE] by this act informs your honourable office about its political decision of recalling three of its deployees.

“Attached is a copy of our communication with our national task team and attendance register of [COPE] members who attended the meeting and took this decision”.

But Madisha said: “If anyone purports to have such powers to take such decisions to recall deployees, they are liars.
