Refreshing lack of discrimination
TWO women with two different stories have opened a place of worship for the lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and intersex (LGBTI) community in Nelson Mandela Bay.
While one faced discrimination, the other felt she was never accepted by the people of the church.
Legend Nonxuba, 44, and Khanyisa Sinqe, 32, opened a branch of the Victorious Ministries Church International two months ago.
Both women did not want to name the two churches they attended before opening their own branch.
Nonxuba and her group of 20 meet at Emsengeni Primary School in Zwide on Sundays.
A second group of about 15 meet at the home of Sinqe in KwaNobuhle also on Sundays.
Sixteen years ago, Nonxuba was told by the leadership of her church in Cape Town to repent her sexual preference or get out.
