EMERGENCY staff worked through the night to recover the bodies of two George students after their vehicle plunged over a cliff near Herolds Bay on the Garden Route on Sunday.
A third person, believed to have been flung from the vehicle, is missing.
Paramedics and metro services were called out to Voëlklip near the town late on Sunday after someone reported seeing a vehicle on the rocks at the bottom of the cliff.
Police spokesman Malcolm Pojie said friends and family of the three men – aged 20, 21 and 22 – became concerned when they failed to return home after an evening out with friends.
Pojie said police found marks on the surface of a dirt road near Voëlklip.
The wreckage of a Toyota Hilux was later discovered, lying on its roof, about 200m down a cliff on large rocks.
A helicopter ferried emergency workers to the scene and was used to recover the bodies.
Pojie said although family and friends said there had been three NMMU George campus students in the vehicle before it crashed, only two bodies were found.
Pojie said the third man had probably been flung out of the car on impact and possibly swept out to sea.
