NELSON Mandela Bay deputy mayor Bicks Ndoni has come out in full support of a subcouncil for Uitenhage and Despatch, saying it would bring services closer to what are said to be neglected towns.
Ndoni also blasted what he said was an allowed societal practice that the government could get away with providing sub-standard service to residents in townships.
He said this was a culture the municipality’s leaders had to uproot if they were to deliver efficient services for all.
Ndoni’s stance is in stark contrast to that of the city’s former leadership, which shut down any talk of a sub-council, despite increasing calls from residents to establish one.
