NMMU student, 19, drowns in Sundays

A 19-YEAR-OLD Nelson Mandela Metropolitan University student drowned in the Sundays River in Colchester outside Port Elizabeth yesterday.

Police spokesman Constable Mncedi Mbombo said the incident took place at about 11am.

“Details are still sketchy, but I can confirm that the man, an Angolan, drowned in the river.

“He was with a group of people at the time.

“We understand that while swimming he got into difficulty and drowned. His body was recovered from the river,” he said.

An inquest docket has been opened.
