Eight people died instantly, including a truck driver, when an minibus taxi collided head-on with a truck in Middleburg, 46kms outside Graaff-Reinet.
The minibus was travelling from Uitenhage to Gauteng when the accident happened just after 21:00 last night.
Two truck and four minibus passengers have since been discharged from the hospital. Four other critically injured passengers have been referred to Livingstone Hospital in Port Elizabeth.
The Eastern Cape provincial government is urging all motorists on the road to exercise extra caution.
