Prison warder bust for dagga

A 38-year-old prison warder from Oudtshoorn was arrested by Grahamstown police on Sunday night after 12.7kg of dagga was found inside his vehicle.

The man was caught by the Highway Patrol unit who stopped the vehicle on the N2 near Seven Fountains.

Police spokeswoman Captain Mali Govender said that man was travelling from his home in King Williams Town to
Oudtshoorn where he works.

“The vehicle that he was driving‚ a Toyota Corolla‚ was also seized by police‚” she said.

The estimated street value of the dagga is not yet known.

Govender said that the warder was alone in the vehicle at the time of his arrest.

The man is due to appear in the Grahamstown Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday for being in possession of dagga.
