TWO Port Elizabeth sisters who missed weeks of school earlier this year due to a hereditary eye disease which resulted in their dropping out, have passed with flying colours.

The Carelse sisters – Esterline, 13, and Wendy, 8 – joined the Northern Lights Special School in Cotswold after leaving their previous school, where they were bullied and teased because their eye disease made it hard for them to see.

But the sisters have both passed, and Wendy, who is in Grade 2 next year, has done so well that she received a diploma for reading.

“I enjoy school now and am very fond of my teacher.

“She is patient with me and I am focused.

“The children at Northern Lights do not tease me.

“No one takes away my spectacles by force,” Wendy said.
