SINGING sensation Asanda Jezile, who wowed judges in the 2013 edition of Britain’s Got Talent, has joined some of the most famous singing children on YouTube to form a music super group to raise awareness about childhood cancer through a new single.

Asanda, the daughter of South African expatriates, auditioned for the series with Rihanna’s Diamonds and received rave reviews for her strong voice and powerful stage presence.

Buffalo City Metro proudly claims her as its homegirl since her father is from Mdantsane.

Speaking to Times Media via e-mail from the UK, Asanda said she was looking forward to working on such an important project with people her own age.

“Being part of a group to raise [awareness about] childhood cancer is an honour,” Asanda said.

“It makes me feel blessed and fortunate to not have cancer.

“Also, doing this for the children who do have cancer makes me realise that it’s good to be grateful for what you have.”

Child4Child is a global initiative launched by Childhood Cancer International, an umbrella organisation currently representing 177 parent-led childhood cancer organisations in 90 countries.

The group’s single was released on earlier this month and children from all over the world are invited to sing and record the chorus to the song. They can upload their recording onto the website.

On February 15, International Childhood Cancer Day, composer Christophe Beck will create a “super song”, bringing all the voices of the children from around the world to sing, virtually, as one.

We Are One is an original song composed just for this spectacular event by Beck, who is best known as the composer of the soundtrack to Disney’s Frozen.

The child ambassadors are from all over the world and include Livvy Stubenrauch (the voice of Young Anna in Frozen), Alexa Curtis (The Voice Kids Australia), Laura Kamhuber ( The Voice Kids Germany), Robbie Firmin ( Britain’s Got Talent), Aaralyn O’Neill ( America’s Got Talent), Nathan Bautistam ( The Voice Kids Philippines), Fresh Ré (Ireland), Olivia Swinton ( The Voice Kids Australia) and Robbie Anderson ( The Voice Kids Australia).

Asanda, who is working on her debut album, said any opportunity was like an exercise. “It’s like you are working out and get the body shape you need, similar to me doing what I love, gaining a connection with music in general and the world,” she said.

To download and record the chorus, visit and follow the prompts.
