11222687_10153206841678477_8978728131178789385_nAS outrage over the brutal attack on an 19-year-old NMMU student continues to simmer, a group of concerned parents and community members in Port Elizabeth’s northern areas are planning to stage a vigil and march to voice their concerns over safety and security.

Members of the Muslim community met at the Families Against Drugs offices in Parkside last night to plan for tomorrow’s event.

The meeting was sparked off by the attack on Asadullah Ajimudin, of Kimberly, who was bludgeoned into a coma at his Summerstrand flatlet in the early hours of Saturday.

Ajimudin died at the St George’s Hospital on Tuesday and was buried in the Malabar Cemetery later that night.

Tomorrow’s event, which organisers last night said should include people of all races, ages and religious groups, is set to start at the Kings Beach parking lot on the beachfront at 7pm.

Participants have been requested to bring candles.

The march is expected to proceed as far as the Shark Rock Pier area, where various speakers are expected to address participants, after which the march will return to Kings Beach.

Organisers, who plan to involve municipal and police leadership and student organisations in the event, said it was being held to take a stand against crime, show solidarity with the family of the student and to demand improvements in the criminal justice system and improved and increased policing in the Summerstrand area.
