Greenwood land sale ‘in school’s best interests’

A FORMER Eastern Cape attorney said he had acted in the best interests of the school’s educational purposes before he and two others allegedly defrauded Greenwood Primary of more than R2-million.

Yesterday, Michael Randell, who served as the school’s attorney and governing body vice- chairman, told the Port Elizabeth Commercial Crimes Court while the school could easily have sold the premises in Park Drive on its own, “there was no intention from the school to develop the vacant land . . . I have no doubt that our focus was entirely on educational purposes”.

Randell, with former principal Patrick Shelver and governing body chairman Michel Lascot, allegedly defrauded the school of about R2.5-million between 1999 and 2006 through the sale of a school property.
