ON THE OFFENSIVE: DA Eastern Cape leader Athol Trollip and IN ZUMA’S CORNER: Eastern Cape premier Phumulo Masualle

Conflicting views from Masualle, Trollip during state of nation debate

EASTERN Cape premier Phumulo Masualle yesterday boasted that through agriculture and green energy, the province was well on its way to creating the kind of economic growth and jobs demanded by President Jacob Zuma last week.

Meanwhile, DA provincial leader Athol Trollip rejected Zuma’s state of the nation address, saying the president had failed the nation when he did not provide concrete plans to grow the economy and jobs.

The two Eastern Cape heavyweights were debating last week’s state of the nation address in the National Assembly yesterday.

Setting the tone for his state of the province address in Bhisho on Friday, Masualle said the province had responded to the state’s nine-point plan to deal with sluggish growth.

“To date, madam speaker, we are making progress in our footprint of wind and solar farms which have increased to 17 with a total investment value of R33.7-billion, creating the much-needed job opportunities with 611 megawatts of power,” he said.

The premier said the province was determined to grow the economy and create jobs as Zuma demanded.
