PASSING the baton of conservation on to youngsters is what renowned conservationist Kingsley Holgate is hoping to do through anti-poaching project Rhino Art Let Our Children’s Voices Be Heard.
Speaking yesterday at an event at the Old Grey sport fields to promote the project and to raise funds, Holgate, 69, told the audience about the work the group was doing to fight poaching.
Also speaking at the event was Wayne Bolton, 49, who completed the “One Land Love It” expedition last weekend.
Bolton completed a gruelling cycle through 19 South African national parks across the country to raise funds for anti-poaching initiatives.
Holgate said: “I have been absolutely fascinated by the commitment to wildlife in the province [Eastern Province]. We now want to pass the baton on to the youth as they are the future.”
The project, targeting mostly disadvantaged schools, works in a fun way to make pupils realise rhinos are “part of what it means to be South African”.
