CLOSE friends and colleagues are battling to come to terms with the sudden death of well-known public relations officer and local entertainment personality Maureen Dalzell.

Dalzell, 71, who worked in the hospitality industry at Sun International hotels for 30 years, died in the early hours of yesterday after succumbing to injuries sustained in a car accident 10 days ago.

Yesterday, grieving friends described the diminutive and stylish Dalzell as passionate, energetic, hard-working and focused.

Former Boardwalk general manager Graham Vass, who is now based in Cape Town, said: “As a dear friend of Maureen, this is an incredibly huge loss for me and my family as well as the many people in Port Elizabeth who were close to her.

“She was exceptionally well known in PE and instrumental in a number of successful events held at the Boardwalk.

“Maureen was also involved in a number of charities and that will forever be her legacy – as she managed to get the Boardwalk involved in a number of them and these charities benefited to the tune of millions of rands.”
