MAKANA ANC councillor Paul Notyawa has withdrawn his lawsuit against the Grahamstown-based municipality and the provincial government over the municipal manager job he was fighting for.
This paves the way for the municipality finally to advertise the vacancy.
Notyawa took the municipality and Eastern Cape Corporate Governance and Traditional Affairs MEC Fikile Xasa to court last year after he was initially accepted for the post, only to be denied it later.
He was appointed by the council in March last year pending Xasa’s approval.
The MEC did not approve his appointment, citing inadequate experience for the position, so leading Notyawa to sue him and the council.
Makana has not had a permanent municipal manager since December 2013.
The municipality is also still under provincial administration.
Acting municipal manager Riana Meiring confirmed yesterday that Notyawa had withdrawn his lawsuit, but she did not know the reasons.
