Daso SRC candidate confident he represents struggles of students
HE calls himself a typical Eastern Cape child: raised by a single parent, studying with a student loan, and from a small farming town. This is exactly why Nicholas Nyati from Kirkwood believes he can become NMMU SRC president next month.
The 22-year-old, third-year nursing science student is the DA Students Organisation’s SRC presidential candidate for the student elections on September 16.
Defining leaders as those who serve people rather than themselves, Nyati is confident he is a leader who understands and represents the struggles of students at the university.
“I am a typical Eastern Cape child. I use the National Student Financial Aid Scheme [NSFAS] and I was raised by a single parent. This is what has influenced my politics – it is knowing how it feels to be stressed by insufficient finances,” Nyati said.
