A BUNCH of high-spirited Walmer women went semi-nude to raise cash for Port Elizabeth’s Shine Literacy Centre.

The 13 women stripped down to the bare necessities to produce a calendar that will surely set tongues wagging.

The award-winning Cape Town-based organisation started the Port Elizabeth Shine chapter with the assistance of the Walmer Angels Project.

And the Walmer Angels Project launched the birthday calendar yesterday to help raise some much-needed funding.

The proceeds will be used to develop a second container.

Excited about the final product, Glenda Brunette, 54, said she wanted to raise funds in a fun and unique way. “I wanted to do something different from the norm . . . our goal was to keep it respectable and fun for people who buy it.”

Brunette described the experience as nerve-racking. “I kept thinking what my children would think seeing those photos. But when I looked it was done beautifully.”

NMMU lecturer Nadeema Musthan, 35, said: “I really like the way it was tastefully done. It portrays women differently from what we generally see in the media.”

The calendar, at R95, is available at Cobblestone Bakery and Pantry and Fisheries.
