FOUR suspected robbers were arrested in Port Elizabeth yesterday after a dramatic car chase that ended with a shootout.
A police officer was wounded during the Bethelsdorp shooting.
Five other suspects managed to flee after the gang stole money from Sunshine Dealer’s Cash and Carry in Marock Road.
Within minutes of the shootout, police arrested the four suspects and recovered a stolen revolver.
On the scene in Bowler Road, a black handbag with stolen money was lying on the road next to a pool of blood.
Bullet cartridges were scattered over the road for several metres.
A bullet hole could be seen in the driver’s door of a police car and the getaway minibus stood idle after crashing into a wall.
